CNN: Cultivating Style Online

I stumbled upon this interesting article on CNN today about the increasing popularity of men's online shopping sites (Mr. Porter, Park & Bond, etc.) and the heavy influence of fashion/lifestyle blogs on mens fashion.

"Like most modern movements, the Internet has brought the world of trade information and style insiders to audiences outside New York and Los Angeles, said Michael Williams, editor and creator of A Continuous Lean."

Although this isn't a men's fashion blog and I don't buy menswear (except for the occasional denim shirt), it's clear that the same movement is taking place in women's fashion. With blogs and their respective bloggers becoming our "fashion gatekeepers", it is interesting to see how the web has influenced--and possibly created--our ideas of style and trends. As someone who has worked in fashion retail for several years, I'm curious to see how the combination of blogs and online retailers like Net-a-Porter and Asos will change the way people respond to trends and consequently decide what (and where) to buy.
